To be eligible for this ranking, firms must be registered investment advisors that file their own ADV with the SEC and provide financial planning and related services to individual clients. Firms that complete an online survey are ranked based on year-end assets under management. The ranking also includes each firm’s percentage growth in assets, average assets per client relationship, percentage growth in assets per client, and percentage change in number of clients.
Rochester Business Journal Circle of Excellence Honorees
The Rochester Business Journal Women of Excellence awards recognize high-achieving women for their professional experience, community involvement, leadership and sustained commitment to mentoring. Winners were selected by a panel of judges comprised of previous Circle of Excellence and Women of Excellence honorees. The Circle of Excellence recognizes women of longstanding, notable success in the community who are leading the way for other women. Rochester Business Hall of Fame 2019 Class of Honorees
The Rochester Business Hall of Fame is presented by Junior Achievement of Rochester New York Area Inc., the Rochester Business Journal and Rochester Museum & Science Center. The Hall of Fame Committee, advised by an independent group of past inductees, selects each year’s honorees. To qualify, firms must be registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission as an RIA with between $250 million and $2 billion in assets under management at the end of 2018. Using a proprietary scoring system, Citywire evaluates firms based on their degree of independent ownership; AUM growth; percentage of fee-based business; approaches to sustainability, including sustainability programs and diversity initiatives; processes in place for attracting and maintaining talent; succession planning; staff credentials; investment offerings and capabilities; client education and charitable work; and firm service offerings.
Barron’s Advisor Hall of Fame
Advisors appearing in our rankings have answered 100-plus questions about their practices in our annual survey. The questionnaire addresses a wide range of data points, including the assets the advisors oversee, the revenue they collect on those assets, the industry designations they possess, their regulatory records, the length of time they’ve been in the industry, their charitable and philanthropic work, the investment vehicles they use to allocate assets, the sizes and shapes of their teams, and more.

This ranking reflects the volume of assets overseen by the advisors and their teams, revenues generated for the firms, and the quality of the advisors’ practices. The scoring system assigns a top score of 100 and rates the rest by comparing them with the top-ranked advisor. A ranking of “N” indicates the advisor was not ranked in the specified year. HNW=high net worth; UHNW=ultrahigh net worth.

Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Neither Forbes nor SHOOK receive a fee in exchange for rankings. New York City is excluded from the calculation and has separate ranking lists to honor their Wealth Advisors.
